Stuffing
The ingredients may appear to be your ordinary stuffing ingredients, but the it's the butter and the browning process that make my mother-in-law's stuffing THE BEST! In the spirit of sharing, here's Marjy's Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe.
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Total Time 55 minutes
Servings 4
Ingredients
- 1 stick butter
- 1 onion chopped
- 1 green bell pepper chopped
- 1, 8 oz. package Pepperidge Farm Herb Seasoned Stuffing
- 1 1/2 cups chicken broth
Instructions
-
Melt butter in a large cast-iron skillet or large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
-
Add the chopped onion and bell pepper, cook until soft.
-
Add stuffing crumbs, pour broth on top and gently stir to combine.
-
Now, this is the key...brown the stuffing! Gently turn the stuffing as it browns until the entire batch resembles sausage crumbs. Don't turn it too often or it will never brown. The browning process can take 30 - 45 minutes...be patients, it's worth the wait!
Congratulations to Carolsue…winner!
For Thanksgiving dinner, I got turkey gravy in a carton from Trader Joe’s. I kicked it up a little with some turkey drippings and white wine and it was wonderful. I also got the cranberry sauce in cartons and we liked that, too. Much less waste and tasted just as good.
Pumpkin Spice Crockpot Soup: Sautee one onion and two chopped apples in a skillet with Coconut oil, then add to crockpot. Add one carton of vegetable broth, one carton of pumpkin puree, 2 chopped sweet potatoes, 2 tsp of pumpkin spice, 3 tsp of cinnamon, one can coconut milk, one cup of unsweetened apple sauce, salt and pepper.
I make After-Thanksgiving Turkey Tortilla Soup:
3 cans of Rotel, 2 cans Mexicorn, 2 can black beans drained, 1/2 pkg taco seasoning, 2 cups leftover shredded turkey & a carton
of chicken broth
This uses cartons AND leftover holiday turkey to save waste!
What a wonderful way to use leftover turkey! I’m going to have to remember that one…thanks!
We make turkey sausage stuffing from cartons.
It’s one of those packaging ideas that I look at and think…why didn’t I think of that! Clever, space-saving and no metal taste!
