Invitations

Evite.com sends FREE email invitations, and they have plenty of Super Bowl Party invitations to choose from. The best part about Evite…it's easy to RSVP, and Evite will remind your guests if they forget!

Decorations

Start with generic football plates and napkins, and add a few festive and frugal DIY decorations.  Why generic football plates instead of Super Bowl plates or Denver Broncos plates?  Simply because they'll never be out-of-date, and you can use the extras for next year's Super Bowl or for any football party.  A frugal party girl doesn't like waste.

Food

There's no cooking required when you ask everyone to bring a Super Bowl party snack! Another option that we're doing this year…include a Chili Cook-Off. Anyone that wants to participate brings Chili in a crock pot. We're providing small tasting bowls, toppings (cheese, chips, onions, sour cream) and a $25 restaurant gift card for the winner.

If a potluck party isn't your thing, here's a frugalicious Super Bowl Party menu that's sure to be a hit with easy recipes for White Queso, Chicken Chili and more!

Beverages

Keep it simple. Avoid a full bar and just offer beer, soda and water OR be totally cheap and tell everyone it's BYOB! Don't forget to check the ads for sales on sodas and beer.

Entertainment

No worries here…the game is the main attraction. If you want to add some fun, set-up a Super Bowl Squares game. Super Bowl Squares is a simple football pool, and it's pure luck, so no football knowledge is required. Here's how it works:
super bowl party plan

  • Make a 10 x 10 grid on a piece of poster board. You'll have 100 squares.
  • Write the name of one team at the top of the grid and the other team on the side of the grid. See the example above.
  • You determine the price of the squares – $1 per square is typical, but 25¢ would work too.
  • When guests arrive at the party, they put there name in as many blank squares as they desire. If they put their name in 10 squares, and your squares cost $1 each…they owe you $10.
  • Prior to kick-off, randomly draw numbers 0 – 9 and write them across the top of your grid. Repeat this process and write the numbers vertically on your grid.
  • At the end of each quarter, there will be a winner. If the score is Miami 13, New York Giants 7 – the person that has the square corresponding to the number 3 (the last digit of the score) for Miami and 7 for the New York Giants wins 25% of the money collected. The last digit of each team's score are the numbers that determine the winner. Yes, I know that Miami and New York are not in the Super Bowl!
