If you have little ones in your life, Christmas morning is likely filled with toys and hours of figuring out how to make some of them work! I can't make those instructions for putting them together any easier, but I can help you save money.

10 Ways to Save Money on Toys.

P.S. – If the idea of used toys isn't for you, jump to #5!

  1. Consider Consignment Shops – If your children are toddlers, they will still be excited with a gently used toy. You'll be pleasantly surprised with the selection at most consignment shops, and you'll certainly get more for your money.
  2. Go to Garage Sales – An even cheaper option than a consignment shop is a garage sale! You should probably clean and sanitize all used toys before giving them as gifts.
  3. Rent Toys – That's right, you can rent gently used toys that have been cleaned, sanitized and repackaged from sites like Rent-That-Toy.com or ToysTrunk.com. It's a great option if you're spending money month after month on new toys that are played with for a very short time.
  4. Host a Toy Swap – invite your friends over for a toy swap…it's a wonderful way to get rid of old toys and welcome some new ones!
  5. Collect Coupons – There is no shortage of toy coupons this time of the year, and always check The Budget Diet's coupon page for free printable coupons. Make sure to check the inserts in your Sunday paper and Thanksgiving Day paper. Mobile coupons are also popping up, so try apps like RetailMeNot to discover coupons on the go.
  6. Discover Discounted Gift Cards – Guess what? You can buy discounted gift cards for up to 30% off at Cardpool.com!. They look, feel and spend just like a regular gift card, but you won't pay full price. I've often seen Build-A-Bear gift cards 15% off, Disney Store gift cards 8% off and Toys R Us gift cards 6% off. If any of these stores are in your shopping plans, order these gift cards today for no-brainer instant savings.
  7. Shop the Sales – For maximum savings, use a discounted gift card and a coupon to shop the sales! You'll feel like such a savvy shopper when the cashier rings up your purchase!
  8. Remember Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx – Think beyond clothing and household items because their toys departments are filled with deals! Don't forget to order discounted gift cards for Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx. The savings is usually between 9% – 14%. Rejoice!
  9. Earn Cash Back – Sites like Ebates will give you cash back for your online toy purchases! Your holiday cash back check will be sent on February 15th, and it's always a nice surprise!
  10. Don't Forget Daily Deal Sites – Daily Deal sites like Zulily specialize in products for mom's and children, and this time of the year, the toy deals abound!
