If you're a regular reader of The Budget Diet, you know I'm a huge fan of Ebates. Why? It falls into the category of what I refer to as no-brainer instant savings. Believe me, if my nearly 80 year old father uses Ebates, you can too!

Still confused? Here's a fun Ebates How-To Video.
Ebates really does seem to good to be true, but they are simply sharing a portion of the commission they receive from the retailers for sending them customers.

In full disclosure, this post contains affiliate links to help support The Budget Diet girl! My advice will always be unbiased and free, but free won't pay the bills!
That does not concern me because after raising a family, budgeting a household well enough to pay our 30 year mortgage in 15, I will not bùy what I don’t want 🙂 I learned that self control in my late teens and learned it well.
But, what’s in it for Ebates? No one does anything for free. If they ask for CC or Bank info. Anywhere along the way, I can tell you exactly what is in it for them.
I believe they get paid from the retailers for referring shoppers to them. They simply reward others to go through them (kinda like a discount club). They profit by getting more $$$ from retailers than what they pay you and me so it’s a win-win. They never asked me for credit card..etc. They need your email to pay you via PayPal (..well and if you make more than $500/yr and you reside in the US then they’ll ask for your SSN for taxes purposes. I’ve gladly given to them since they’ve always paid me on time).
I’VE SIGNED UP FOR E-BATES AND MYPOINTS (SAME TYPE OF SITE) I’VE DONE VERY WELL WITH BOTH. YOUR POST EXPLAINS IT VERY WELL!! =)
My first impression of ebates was that it was like gambling, or appealing to the gambling addicts. You know how they will always talk about what they won, but never what they had to spend or lose to win it? I would still like to see a comparison of what someone spends to what they save. It’s just the watching my costs, pinching every penny business person in me;)
If you’re shopping online…why not! I’m not sure where you’re seeing the “what you won” part.
I had not heard of Ebates, so I’m glad I read this post. I’ll check it out (and will use your affiliate link – I understand about paying the bills!).
Ebates sounds like a great way to earn extra money for the things you plan on buying anyhow. I wish they applied it to in store purchases as well, then it would be more tempting. I shop online but rather go to the store to buy clothes/shoes.
It seems like each year I buy more and more online, so my Ebates BIG FAT CHECK just keeps on growing! Sometimes, I’ll opt to buy something online especially when I have a coupon code for free shipping and I’ll earn cash back. Saves time, saves gas, saves money!
Interesting program. I’ve heard the name, but never really looked into it. I think I’ll have to now. Sounds pretty helpful. thanks for sharing this!
I for one LOVE ebates. I bought sale items at Carter’s and managed to earn an extra 5%. If I order from Amazon, since I don’t earn from my own affiliate, Ebates….I’m serious… I LOVE this thing. Once I had, around Christmas, a great big fat check to the tune of $200!
Love those BIG FAT CHECKS!
